John Prout Named 2009 DSA Winner
John Prout Jr., RPR, of Brant Beach, N.J., was presented with the 2009 Distinguished Service Award during the 2009 annual convention in Washington, D.C. The DSA is NCRA’s highest honor. It is presented to members in recognition of outstanding service for the betterment of the profession.
John Prout served as NCRA President from 1997-1998, and he has served his state association, the Certified Shorthand Reporters Association of New Jersey, as president as well. John Prout is a member of the Fellows of the Academy of Court Reporting. He has served on many committees for both the state and national associations. In 1980, he received CSRA’s Distinguished Service Award.
He has also been prominent in fighting for court reporting jobs in New Jersey and across the country, and he has also built bridges to other legal organizations. In the last few years, he has worked as legislative director for the New Jersey association, meeting with the state legislators in Trenton. Through his hard work, he has helped get a number of bills introduced and successfully passed to the benefit of court reporters.
