Santo J. Aurelio Award for Altruism

In 1996, Mrs. Josephine C. Aurelio gave NCRF a generous donation to honor her husband's lifetime of altruistic endeavors. NCRF established the Santo J. Aurelio Award for Altruism, and each year, beginning in 1999 at NCRA's Centennial Convention, one altruistic person devoted to the court reporting profession will receive this honor.

James Bouley, RDR of Tuscon, AZ Receives 2009 Aurelio Award

Jim began reporting in the mid-1950s. He has served on the Arizona Court Reporters Association board in various offices, including president, and has served on many of its committees. He has also received the Arizona’s Distinguished Service Award.

Jim has served on various NCRA committees related to schools and testing. He has competed in speed contests in 35 states, internationally, and in almost every NCRA Speed Contest since 1972 – and he has qualified in almost all of those.

But his service is not just to the people in the field of court reporting. Jim has provided pro bono services to a group of people working to obtain political asylum for refugees from Guatemala and El Salvador during their civil wars. He has provided pro bono services to indigent clients who were victims of molestation in their suits against the Catholic Church. And he has provided pro bono court reporting services whenever the attorney did and provided deposition services to both sides so that neither party had to pay, never charging a cent in expenses. One attorney who has worked with him said, “I know of no one in the legal community who has the reputation for honesty and humanitarian work which Jim Bouley has.

Jim calls himself a follower, not a leader. But the story of his life says otherwise.
NCRF’s Santo J. Aurelio Award for Altruism is NCRF’s highest honor. It is given to a working court reporter with more than 25 years of experience who has given back to the profession and to the community with no expectation of any reward.
