Reporters And Reporting In The News

Here is a sampling of news items about or of interest to reporters in recent weeks. Some articles may no longer be available online or have a fee attached for access.

Reporting veterans' histories. Channel 9 News in Denver on September 13 covered a reunion of veteran sailors from the USS Wasp, an aircraft carrier sunk in the Coral Sea in 1942. The video includes nice footage of president Joyce Martin, RPR, reporting one veteran's story as part of the Veterans History Project.

Outstanding graduate. Joe Colorado Court Reporters Association Strickland, RPR, CRR, of Washington, D.C., chief reporter for the U.S. House of Representatives, has been named a distinguished alumni honoree for 2008 by Hardin-Simmons University. He graduated in 1976 with a major in music and for 10 years owned and managed an arts and entertainment tour operation before starting reporting school in 1988.

Reporting as a career. The October 1 El Dorado, Kan., Times included good coverage of court reporting as a career in a story about Government Day at the county courthouse.

CART at Rosh Hoshanna service. The Montclair, N.J., Times reported about the addition of CART to High Holy Days services at Bnai Keshet Synagogue in Montclair.

Realtime in Jamaica. Radiojamaica.com reported on a multimillion dollar project to overhaul its Home Circuit Court, including the introduction of realtime reporting.
