Uploading Avatars

An avatar is a picture or graphic that you can have "attached" to your profile that will display, along with your name on all your forum posts. All avatars should be no more than 90 pixels in width and 90 in height. This article only deals with uploading a completed avatar, not creating one.

A neat Web site will resize avatars for you.  Please go to www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar , select a picture to upload, then select the size as being no larger than 160.  Click "Resize."  A new window will appear with about three or four different images.  Select the one you like the best, right-click on it, and select "Save Image As."  Save the image to a place where you will find it easily on your computer.  Then follow the instructions above to upload the avatar into the forum. ;-)

Works like a dream.  All sorts of options for Avatars become available - silly convention photos, trip remembrances.

I do not believe we can upload and use animated GIF files.  Am I right about this, Serge?

I am having avatar issues.  I think I am following the directions correctly.  First I resized a picture using the suggested web site then hosted it at that web site's sister site.  When I input that at the "edit profile" section, initially I see my picture.  Then every subsequent time, I get the dreaded little red x.  There must be a simple solution.  Help, please?

Victoria,

I don't think you have to host the photo on another site.  I think you can just upload it from your hard drive directly to the site.  Try it again without uploading it to another site.
