    Apple computer

Forgot to mention, I'm on Eclipse software.

Anyone have any experience with Apple computers? I bought an Apple MacBook, which I love, by the way, and I have no problems editing. My problems comes when I try realtime. I have no problems hooking up my Apple to receive a direct feed; however, it's when I try to send my realtime that I'm having a problem. Anybody have any advice?

    Hi, Gaye,

I'm thinking of moving to a Mac, too, and I've been doing a little preliminary investigation.  I'm on CC, so I need to be sure I can make the transition without major hurdles.  I do know there was a post recently on Court Reporters Assistance, the MSN site, by a guy in Florida, I believe, and he is able to use a Mac with CC without major difficulties.  He realtimes, too, as I recall.  He said he had written an article for the JCR during the past few years about the Mac, so you might want to check the archives and see if you can find his article.

Good luck!  Let us know how you do.

     Diane,

Just FYI, that guy is Rick Greenspan, and he does post here from time to time.

Thanks, Diane for your input. I know I've seen the article before but, wouldn't you know, when I need it, I can't find it. I'll keep you updated. Gaye

    Gaye:

I believe Rick's article was in the November/December 2006 issue of the JCR.

Thanks, Cindi. I found the article. My problem may be that I need a multi-translating USB hub. Gaye

    Diane:

After two months on my Mac, I think I've finally figured out the glitches.

I was running the Parallels software to run Windows Vista. That was a mistake. The audiosync sounded as though people were talking underwater, I couldn't plug in more than two USB 1.1 devices. With my writer, realtime cables and software key, that was a big hindrance.

Just as I was about ready to give up, I decided to try Boot Camp. I downloaded a Beta copy off the Apple web site. I then reloaded Vista. Voila, it worked!! I can now send my realtime to my judge, the clerk, plug in my software key, my writer, and it all works perfectly. Also, I'm using the built-in microphone on my MacBook and it's crystal clear. It picks up everyone in the courtroom.

Now that all the glitches have been worked out, I love my Mac and probably will never go back to a Windows/PC again. It would be great if these software companies could get our software to run on the Apple operating system.

My advice: If you're thinking about a new Apple computer, wait until October 26 when the new Leopard operating system comes out. It has Boot Camp packaged in the operating system.

That's great news, Gaye. I'm glad to hear all your due diligence paid off. It's always a major deal for me when I switch to a new computer, so I suspect I'll go through growing pains when I transition.  And I am waiting till after the first of the year to buy a Mac (tax reasons and my current lease expiring), so, hopefully, I'll avoid a few difficulties (and likely confront new ones to take their place).  Best of luck now that you're up and running!
