    Inserting an image?

I found a thread addressing whether or not we could all add an image or if this was restricted to forum staff members.  I couldn't seem to find the answer.  I thought it was supposed to be under the options tab but all I can choose is 1) do not allow replies 2) e-mail replies to this post 3) post icon (with a list of emoticons)

Is this restricted, or am I missing something?

    Re: Inserting an image?

Right now, you're correct that you can't add an image by attaching it.

However, if you upload it to a site like Picasa, Google Pages, Snapfish, or a host of other online storage places, you can insert the image easily.  There are two ways I understand you can do it.  I use the first, but many others use the second with great success.

First, upload the image to whatever site you want to host it.  Click on the picture and write down the URL for where that particular photo is stored.

Then here's the two methods for inserting it here:

    1.  In the body of your message, type [ img ] then paste the URL then type [ / img ] (no spaces in between the brakets).

    2.  In the body of your message type <img src="[paste URL here]">  (Jason Meadors also explains it quite well in this post:  http://ncraonline.org/forum/forums/p/1734/3149.aspx#3149)

So here's an example of an image I uploaded to my Picasa album taken at the convention in Dallas:

    Hope this helps!

    Candis,

There's also an "insert image" icon (looks like a tree) while writing a message. Are you saying that doesn't work? (And I do know the image has to be hosted somewhere other than your personal PC.)

Grrr... I see my image didn't appear.  Tongue Tied

Liz, I guess I got used to adding in the code b/c of Depoman.  I didn't even try that feature which you talk about.  Let me give 'er a whirl here.

Thanks for recommending that.  MUCH easier than the HTML (and much less frustrating).  Wink

I see one in the second message.  You don't see that one?  (The first one I messed up the HTML somehow.)

    I don't see it either.

It's a bummer that we can't load from our computer.  I just don't have the time most of the time to go through the hassle.  So is the same thing true of audio clips?  We can't include sound clips like we could in the old forum?  I'd give up all the other fancy stuff to have that option back.  Saved my butt on more than one occasion.

Serge is working on it.  I know that feature does work (of inserting the image). Just not sure why it's not working right now.

Let me try again.  Do you see this picture?

     Or how about this?

    Re: Inserting an image?

No, no pictures. I just uploaded one to my website to see if it works for me.

So there should be one in this message picture

Edited to add: I see it. Do you?

Yup, I do.  I guess you have to host it from your website and not just Picasa.

    How about this one?

    Re: Inserting an image?

Patriotic, aren't we???? Yes, I see it!

But this forum software's requiring graphics (and audio) be hosted on the 'Net is NOT a good thing, especially if you can't use something like Picasa. Not everyone has or wants a personal website!

Do you know if anyone testing other "public access" type sites to see if they'll work? The Community Server software folks should know what works and what doesn't.
