I am in total shock over this.  This is just so amazing that it's hard to believe.  I hope this isn't so.

This was shocking news for all of us.  Let's remember the good things this man has done and not look at only the bad.  He has a wonderful family and two beautiful daughters.  Please pray for them.  I can't imagine what a difficult time they are having right now.

    Shirley,

My prayers do go out to his family.  I, too, cannot imagine how hurt and confused they must be.  And, of course, if the allegations are true, my prayers go most especially to any of the victims.  What a sad, sad situation.

On another forum someone suggested that court reporters might send money to CASA Austin.  This has done damage to that agency which does a lot of good for at-risk children, as I understand.  They are fearful funding may be pulled because of this.  If I am not mistaken, Candis has already donated to this.  She might be willing to share where she sent the money.  We certainly wouldn't want to see any of these programs fail that help children.

Kathy B. provided the link over on Depoman to donate to CASA in Austin.  It took me all of five minutes to donate:  http://www.casatravis.org/donate.html

Mike and Susan Miller are matching any donations made to CASA up to $500.  See this thread on Depoman for more info:  http://members.spboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=3582&highlight=&mforum=depoman

Hi, "someone from another forum" here.   Just to update, we met our $500 matching goal on CASA Travis County donations via Depoman.com in less than 24 hours and are currently discussing with other reporters their stepping up to match some of the ongoing donations of which we are still being notified.

This agency does a lot of good for children in the Austin area and could potentially be drug down due to the fallout from this situation.  To donate, please visit http://www.casatravis.org/donate.html, or for more details on matching donations, that page is, as Candis said, http://members.spboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=3582&highlight=&mforum=depoman.

Just to add one thing, Mike, the executive director of CASA Travis County popped in and thanked everyone for our support.  So it's not like our donations and kind thoughts aren't going unnoticed.

Even if you just give $10, please consider making a donation to this very worthy charity.

    Mike and Candis,

I think what you fine folks have done over on the Depoman forum is just amazing.

As a reporter, I felt I needed to do something, but what?  I don't know the people involved, but it's still affecting my collegues that do.

Coming up with this idea of donating to the agency that might suffer from this as well as the children they've served is a great idea.

And Mike, get back over here more often, ya hear?

Be sure to let Susan Perry Miller know about your donations.  They have donors who are giving matching funds, so please let them know.

    Re: Court Reporter Arrested

NCRA has received the following communication from Bill Fredericks, which we pass along for your information:

By now you and the NCRA membership have heard about my former partner Bill Carroll's arrest and the charges that have been filed against him.

Those of us at Fredericks-Carroll were deeply shocked and saddened by this news.  Our company condemns any criminal behavior, and we trust all appropriate action will be taken.  We were completely unaware of the facts underlying Mr. Carroll's arrest, and we are actively cooperating with the authorities in their ongoing investigation.

In response to these events, Fredericks-Carroll Reporting and Litigation Services, Inc., was dissolved effective May 29, 2008.  However, I would like to announce that I have immediately formed a new company, Fredericks Reporting & Litigation Services, LLC.  My new company will continue, without interruption, to offer court reporting and litigation support services to our clients and colleagues with the excellent level of service I have provided for over 28 years.

We continue to hold the victims of this tragedy and the Carroll family in our thoughts and prayers, and we ask that you do the same.

Thank you all for your support in this very difficult time.
