    10x10

Well, I was not at Karen's address on Friday of convention, but I heard about the 10x10 project, about talking to 10 people and asking them to take a test or become more active by 2010.  So far I have one person ready to sign up for the RPR - she hasn't been a member for about 5 years now, and has decided that she wants a change...  and the RPR is the first step in marketing herself.

This concept - of which I have the bare bones - of talking up NCRA, certifications and volunteerism, is a GREAT idea.  Surely those of us here aren't the only ones who love what we do and want to better ourselves AND the perception of the profession.

    That's awesome, Tori!

I was hesitant to sign the 10x10 board, because I wasn't sure if I actually knew 10 people that would actively strive for higher certifications and/or their initial certifications.  But now as I sit here at my desk, I can think of 5!  Go figure.  With certification on the heels of court reporters in Ohio, I feel it's only prudent of me to reach out to our local membership to get them on board in achieving their certifications, not only for Ohio's benefit, but for NCRA and our entire profession.

I am going to go for my RDR in October.  I'm nervous as heck, but at least I'll know if I'm even close to passing it, and I wouldn't even know that if I don't try.

Karen speech was very motivational.  It was a great speech and as an association, we're so very lucky to have her as our President!!

BTW, it was great "meeting" you in Anaheim!!!

    Sarah,

Check all the reporters names that you know against the names in the Sourcebook and you have got your answer.   It is shocking who is not in that Sourcebook membership directory.

    Shirley,

It's funny that you mention that.  I just started going through the SourceBook (2008's) and comparing NCRA's member to the members of OCRA in my district.  Those that are a member of NCRA, but not of OCRA, I want to personally contact and ask them how things are going, if they plan on attending our fall seminars (which start next week...yikes, I better get moving), and hopefully form a bond with them to seek their support at the state level as well.

Keeping my fingers crossed that I can make contact and fill that relationship gap.

     Shirley and Sarah -

it's a GREAT place to start.  and then the rolls of the state organization.  and then the schools.

All it takes is a few people to start the process... and then good things can happen!

Sarah - good to see you, too!!Wink
