Case CATalyst 9 Workshops in New York, Phoenix, Chicago

    “I can really use this!”

Reporters who have never attended a Case CATalyst workshop have told me that they’ve come to expect that the only thing they get out of most continuing education opportunities is the points.  Reporters attending the Case CATalyst workshops tell me how surprised and delighted they are to discover how genuinely practical and useful they found the information in these classes.  Other comments included: "“I really appreciate that you explained when and why; not just what and how.”  Reporters told me that they dislike sitting through classes where the instructor only gives step-by-step instructions without giving specific examples of how something ties in to their work.

If that's the type of continuing education opportunity you've been looking for, please click HERE for more information and/or to register for any/all of the eight 90-minute classes (up to 1.2 CEUs total) being offered:

September 19-20: New York, NY (Manhattan – Hotel Pennsylvania)
October 17-18:   Phoenix, AZ (Mesa – Phoenix Marriott Mesa)
November 14-15:  Chicago, IL (Oak Brook – Doubletree Hotel Oak Brook)

Class size is limited and seats are filling up fast, so please reserve your seat ASAP!

    Cindi,

Will there be classes also offered in 2009?

    Lisa:

We will begin planning for 2009 classes in November 2008.  We'll announce the schedule once dates and locations are confirmed; most probably some time in January or February of 2009.  If you have suggestions for particular dates, locations and/or facilities that you would like us to consider while planning, please feel free to email them to me at training@stenograph.com.

    Cindi,

I'm bummed.  I can't make any of these.  The New York one would be a blast, but my CEUs are starting over again October 1st, so I can't justify the expense of going to New York next month without getting credit for it.

The October one in Phoenix is the same time as Ohio CRA's last fall seminar that I will be attending.

And the Chicago one is the same time as NCRA's leadership.  Boo.  :-(

I have a suggestion and will e-mail it to you!!!

I have attended many workshops where Cindi has instructed, and Cindi is fabulous.  Not only  has she instructed but she has taken the time OUTSIDE of the room to answer questions.  I have been to Chicago for their annual workshop and would highly recommend when they are scheduled, Attend, Attend, Attend.  You will not be disappointed.

I was seriously considering going to the one in New York until I looked at the price of the rooms.  I tried "Orbitz" and "Expedia" to see if there was another hotel cheaper for those dates close by but no such luck.  I know it's a great time to be in New York and that's why the rooms are so high.

The ratings of that hotel aren't so great either.  Did you read those, Tina?

    Tina,

If you can find others to join you in your training in Manhattan, I highly recommend renting an apartment and splitting the cost.

I have stayed in Manhattan twice now at two different apartments owned by the same gentleman (one was by Central Park and one was near Times Square).  Both times we SAVED money as compared to a hotel.  And it was great!   Separate sleeping quaters, full-kitchen, etc.

I will never stay at a hotel in NYC after experiencing it the way I have.  It's awesome!

Anyway, if you want suggestions, let me know.  Most likely the apartments I have stayed at in the past (especially the one that is near the Hotel Penn.) are booked for October.

    Good luck!

New York prices are always high, regardless of season.  The good news is that it's simple to avoid.  You can stay over in NJ at virtually any hotel and take a commuter bus into the city.  I sometimes stay, for example, at the Courtyard Lyndhurst Meadowlands.  Parking is free in the hotel garage, and you can catch the bus just around the corner from the front door of the hotel.  A round trip from the hotel to the Port Authority building is just a few bucks (less than $10? I don't remember), take only about 15 minutes, and the Port Authority building is walking distance from where the Stenograph sessions are being held.  There are dozens of hotels in that same general area.  If you're interested in pursuing it, my suggestion is that you go online, check on hotel availability, and then give that hotel a call and ask about ease of transit into the city; they're in business to be helpful.

Does anyone know how to increase the font on a post you make?  I can barely read what I'm writing.

Anyway, thanks for all of your suggestions.  Yes, I did look at the rating of the hotel.  Not so great.  I checked a bunch of hotels in the area trying to get as close as I could but that didn't work.

The apartment suggestion is certainly something to consider next time.  I know of no other reporters going and now that the flights are less than 30 days out it would cost even more to fly in.

As far as staying in New Jersey and the classes starting at 8:00, I'd just as soon wait and go to another venue where the rates are more reasonable and not deal with the stress of trying to get there.  I know these workshops are awesome and very helpful.  I'll get to one eventually.

But I love New York too and hope we have another convention there soon because the room rates for the New York convention year before last were great and so was the location!

As of now, Tina, there is no way until AFTER you've started to type something.

As soon as you type a few letters or a word, change your font and then continue typing and it will stay to what you've change it to.

Well, color me stupid but I don't know where the drop down/change font thingy is.  I've scanned over all the little icons and can't find it and went to my personal page to see if perhaps it was something in there I could do.

    Tina,

When you hit "reply" to a post, what do you get?

Your posts aren't coming through with tiny font.

I get the reply box with the icons at the top for bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, etc., but none show a font.

    Tina:

There should be two fields directly above the Bold, Italics, Underline, Strikethrough icons that say Font family and Font size.  If you click the down arrow to the right of either of those fields, you can select your preference.  I personally prefer to select that first and then start typing, because the default font size is "extra small."  It posts slightly larger than that, but I find a font size of 3 or 4 to be far more comfortable to read when typing.
