    Brief It and User Settings

    Cindi:

I am using Brief It and LOVE it!!!   I have it docked under my vertical notes.  The only problem I'm having is I make it so it shows and SAVE my Realtime user settings, but every time I open realtime, the Brief It does NOT show.  I always have to go to View/Brief It to get it to show under the vertical notes.   I'm overwriting the previous user settings, but it's not taking????   Any suggestions?  I do have the correct alternate user settings selected under translation options.

    Thanks,

FWIW I'm having trouble with this too.  I can't seem to get alternate user settings to work consistently under any mode I try to use it (edit or RT).  Maybe Cindi knows the answer.

    Sheri:

I need more info to help you.

Here's what I experience.  I open Tran Edit or Edit, select my view settings to show Brief It and Vertical Notes, save the changes to that file, then close Edit.  I go into any other file in edit and it always opens with Brief It and Vertical Notes displayed.  I have not selected or loaded alternate user settings.

Let me know what you're doing.

    Cindi:

I have two user settings files, Realtime and Edit.   When editing, I don't have my notes showing or the Brief It and my zoom is larger.   So, when I come home from a job and open a translated file, I load my Edit User Settings.

When I open realtime, I want my notes to show with Brief It docked under them.   So, I have my translation options set to use my Realtime User Settings.   Brief It does not come up!  If I go to View/Brief It then everything is fine.  But if I re-save my Realtime User settings they will not "take" if subsequently the Edit settings are loaded and then Realtime Settings loaded with the next translation.  In other words, YES, Brief It will come up on the screen for any job I open as long as I never load any OTHER user settings besides my Realtime User settings.  Once I load the Edit settings, then the Realtime settings do not remember that I want Brief It to show.

Gees, I hope that made sense!

I'm sorry - I understand now, and yes, I can reproduce that in Version 9. That has been previously reported, a fix has been developed and is currently being tested in the beta Version 10.  I don't have a workaround for you for now, for Version 9, other than what you're already doing.

Thanks for checking into that for me!  I appreciate it!

I did find something that helps out for now.  I assigned a key combo in my keyboard map to be "View Brief It Pane" and then I wrote a macro and an accelerwriter to invoke it.  So, I'll try that out on my next job.  At least I won't have to try fumbling with my mouse to get that Brief It to show up.  I never remember that it's missing until the depo has already started ....

Nice to know a fix is in the works ;o)

    Thanks!

I can weigh in that I'm currently testing CC Version 10 and there is an Always Show BriefIt option that is working just fine.
