To help the Association function more effectively and address the needs of the membership, NCRA maintains a number of committees and task forces. The Captioning Community of Interest Committee identifies and develops programs, products, and services for captioners.
The CART Community of Interest Committee identifies and develops programs, products, and services for CART providers.
The CLVS Council teaches at the biannual CLVS seminar/forum and conducts the skills testing for CLVS certification.
The Committee on Professional Ethics is responsible for interpreting and enforcing the Code of Professional Ethics and the CLVS Code of Ethics in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and Bylaws. Members of this Committee are appointed to serve staggered three-year terms.
The Constitution and Bylaws Committee reviews the Constitution and Bylaws and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors and the Membership.
The Contests Committee prepares, conducts, and grades the national speed contest and the national realtime contest during the Annual Convention.
The Council of the Academy of Professional Reporters (CAPR) is responsible for the development and administration of continuing education programs, credential examinations, and any additional programs assigned by the Board of Directors. The Constitution and Bylaws state that the Council shall consist of at least five Fellows.
The CAPR Independent Study Task Force writes is responsible for the evaluating of home study submissions for credit worthiness.
The CAPR Item Writing Committee writes and edits test questions for the RPR, RMR, and RDR written knowledge tests. The committee works with a Professional Exam Service consultant to develop written knowledge test items.
The CAPR Realtime Certification Committee creates skills and written knowledge tests for the CRR, CBC and CCP exams.
The CAPR Test Advisory Committee is responsible for writing and selecting the RPR, RMR, and RDR exams. TAC also standard-sets the RPR written test each meeting. In addition, TAC writes and selects the RPR and RMR Literary, Jury Charge, and Testimony skills tests.
The CAPR Verification Committee regrades all NCRA skills exams that are within 10 points of passing or failing, as well as spot-checking for grading accuracy and regarding tests if necessary.
The Council on Approved Student Education (CASE) is responsible for the certification and development of court reporter student training and education programs. The Constitution and Bylaws state that the Council shall consist of at least five members, including at least two Registered Reporters and at least three reporting educators from NCRA certified programs representing both public and private institutions.
The Distinguished Service Award Committee recommends to the Board of Directors a recipient for the Distinguished Service Award. As stated in the Constitution and Bylaws, the Distinguished Service Award Committee consists of five past recipients of the Distinguished Service Award.
The Firm Owners Community of Interest Committee develops the format and overall theme/tone of the annual Firm Owners Executive Conference. CoI members suggest other value-added programs and services for the firm owner segment of NCRA’s membership.
The Freelance Community of Interest Committee helps develop seminar topics, descriptions, and speakers for the NCRA Annual Convention and Midyear Conference and monitors issues of interest to the community.
The Membership Telemarketing Committee conducts telemarketing projects related to membership, including an annual renewal phone-a-thon. During this three day phone-a-thon, committee members make over 3,000 calls to members who have not renewed their membership for the current year.
The National Committee of State Associations provides a forum for delegates appointed by affiliated reporter associations to exchange experiences, information, and various points of view about matters of current relevance to NCRA, Affiliates, and the profession. NCSA also provides information and advice to the NCRA Board of Directors through the submission of resolutions and position statements. The president appoints a NCSA chair and vice-chair.
The Nominating Committee interviews and identifies nominees for offices and directorships to be filled at the annual business meeting. The Constitution and Bylaws state that the committee shall consist of four Registered Members and the Immediate Past President.
The Officials Community of Interest Committee identifies and develops programs and services for official reporters.
The Online Forum Committee helps members and Forum subscribers use the Forum; enforces Forum rules; and works with staff to identify and solve Forum-related problems.
The School Owners/Administrators Community of Interest identifies and develops products and services for school owners and administrators, with a view toward helping every school to succeed in increasing enrollments and retaining students.
The Student Community of Interest develops the Student Seminar Program for the Midyear Conference and Annual Convention. This CoI also creates content and provides management support for the Student Community Web site. Members work with other CoI committees to keep students involved as they graduate and enter the profession.
The Teachers Community of Interest develops programs for the annual Teachers’ Workshop and creates material for the Teachers’ CoI Web site. The CoI also develops products and services for teachers’ use and promotes NCRA membership, certification, and involvement in the CoI to all teachers.
The Technology Evaluation Committee identifies and analyzes emerging and existing technologies in the court reporting field and reports its findings to the membership via articles in the JCR, NewsFlash, Technology Report, and seminar presentations at the Midyear Conference and Annual Convention.
